Known as the “island of the winds”, and famed for its magnificent sandy bays, clear waters, and vibrant nightlife, Mykonos covers just under 86 square kilometres. The Sirocco, a warm Saharan breeze, and the cooling Meltemi wind from the north shape the island’s climate, especially in July and August. Its vibrant heart is Mykonos Town, with its picturesque maze of whitewashed Cycladic houses and cobblestone streets lined with restaurants, boutiques, cafés and clubs. Captivating visitors year after year with a unique energy, the island still exudes the same authentic hospitality that charmed its first visitors.

As of the early 20th century, famous artists, politicians and wealthy Europeans were known to vacation here in private villas. But the island remained a well-guarded secret until the high society of the 1960s began to drop anchor off Mykonos on their way to exploring the neighbouring Delos – also called “the island of light” – one of the most significant archaeological treasures in the Mediterranean and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island attracted the likes of Christian Dior, Aristotle Onassis, Jackie O, Grace Kelly, and Marlon Brando. Dior even crowned the local tailor Josef Salachas “le roi du pantalon”, inspiring a couture collaboration with Givenchy!

Our fabled sense of hospitality dates to this time, as visitors were drawn to Mykonos by word of mouth long before there were places to stay overnight, and locals famously opened their homes to every visitor. In the 1970s, Mykonos became synonymous with boho-chic, and since the 1990s, it has set a unique standard for luxury hospitality as one of the world’s most seductive summer destinations.

The Visionary

George Daktylides was among the first to recognize the potential of Mykonos as a luxury destination and laid the foundations of the Collection with his wife, Eleftheria. As their four sons, who now manage the Collection with their families, recount:
